For Okinawa store, we developed a play equipment for sandbox area which is a climbing boulder resembling blunt edges of real rock while ensuring a safe surface to climb. In the four-week to the six-week workshop, these participants have to develop everyday products using alternative materials. At the end of the programme, they get to present and showcase the 3D modeling concepts of their products. Diaz Adisastomo and Adam Davies came up with Soft Edges, a series of wooden furniture with sharp corners covered with bumpers made of mycelium. Mycelium naturally latches onto different substances to help mushrooms grow and form colonies. Its flexibility could be manipulated into many different textures and shapes. The cabin’s exposed outer frames show off the structure's principles on which the ladder, handles, and handrails are attached. Contrasting their heavy and strong frame, the bed panels are finished with wood texture laminate that expresses serenity in minimal space. Ch Style, Ichi, Akari Kobo, and MoonRounds have a genuine curiosity towards human-to-nature connection. Meanwhile, Apple Jack, studio Jig, and Izuru are influenced by practicality in wood production. The show which includes 6 sections in total, was designed to bring the majestic nature of Nara Okuyamato to the exhibition. They both have a fond appreciation for DIY tools and objects found on the factory floor that are being used in production. The result is UMA (Unique Maker Assistant). UMA - which means ‘horse’ in Japanese- is a series of ready-to-assemble furniture conceived as one that can be found in the factory and goes well in many other environments. The first item to be introduced is the bench, a simple wooden beam to sit on.
